It was a beautiful day, today...
The sun was shining, but it was COLD!!!
(lighthouse on lake Michigan, here in Holland)
I had a plan today... I was going to accomplish a TON.
I was home alone & was going to go no where, just me & my
vacuum, my laundry, the mop, the sewing machine....
YES!! I was going to do a LOT.
A message on the answering machine.....
a daughter of some clients....
I did not return the call immediately....
these clients were in Florida until spring......
did not think it was urgent.....
She called again.... so I called her back.
"Mom" she says, "Has only days to live.... Would it be possible
for you to come here & cut Dad's hair & try & do
something with hers, before she passes"??
Oh My... Ofcourse.....
My dirty floor had nothing on what I experienced today.
The sweet love of a family surrounding the mom that they love.
Making sure she was comfortable & looked like she would want.
I have been doing hair for 35 yrs. & on occasion, have done
house/hospital calls. BUT this was special.
Alma really only has a few days, if that.
I did not know she was sick.
I did her hair the day before she left for the winter.
She got sick down there & they flew home this
past weekend, so she would be at home.
I got to see all of the kids & grandkids there, telling me stories....
stories of Mom's faithfulness & love thru the years....
heard about the last month of pancreatic cancer.....
Heard of the generous private jet that flew them home...
Saw the sweet love of a husband as he prepared to lose
his beloved....
I don't think she even knew....
But I was Blessed....... beyond anything....
The Son was shining today
Oh, what a beautiful post...sometimes we forget that death is just part of living...They were with her when she needed them the most...and you along with her family let her keep her dignity...
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing this.

Oh- My heart aches for all of them...and you. It is never easy losing a client. I work in a hospital (as does my hubby-as a matter of fact he just got called in because a lady in ICU is dying). You just never know what kind gesture is going to touch lives...and how important it was for those KIDS for you to be their FOR their Mom (but we know in our hearts that it was for them, don't we)? God bless you- That was a wonderful gesture on your part...and I'm glad you answered the phone....xxoo Diana
ReplyDeleteOh, what a sad but beautiful post. You are such a sweetie for dropping everything and heading over there right away. I know it's a lot of little things like this that the family will remember and my prayers are with them in this last of days with Alma and with you.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how some things touch our lives forever. As you know, my dad was just diagnosed with a mass on his pancreas.
May you have peace today.
Hugs- Tete
UGH...so sad to hear this. I worked in the medical field for many years..it was tough! I made so many close friendships, and til this day I still think of them and have such fond memories.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! Thank for sharing yourself both with them, and with us. You are a special person to do this!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you.
Thank you for sharing this thru your post Kathy. It is a gentle reminder that we can be there when needed. Praying for these wonderful people.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a touching and beautiful post that it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for blessing me today.

Hi Kathy...I always enjoy your visits. I look forward to seeing you at the spray paint party.
ReplyDeleteWe bought that smoke stand years ago...my husband loves it, he smokes cigars on occasion so it comes in handy.
Oh my. That is so sweet..and I am sure the family was so blessed by your service...
